About Black Soup
Black Soup is the personal website of one Fyn Wyre. Which you may gather is not my real name. Why that unusual monica or even, where it comes from, I have no idea. I'm sticking with it for now. I live in Bristol UK and have done for over 10 years now, having stayed on after an art degree. These days, the DAW has replaced the canvass. The guitar, the chisel. It's a question of pragmatics rather than a rejection of the visual arts. Black Soup is a place for me to share what I've been doing. Chuck up ideas. Throw something into the merky pottage of cyberspace. It's all my own workk, unless otherwise stated. The playing, and production. You can probably hear that I'm not yet a master in any of these fields...
As for the music itself. Much of it is instrumental. That is, lacking lyrics. More focussed on mood, atmosphere. Like soundtracks for strangely familiar films that have never been made. Themes for day dreams. Is it this way because I can't write? Maybe. But I've always liked sound scapes, the sence of space some pieces of music create. Think Brian Eno, God Speed you Black Emperor. The sparce shimmering sound of a 60's Fender Twin. And then we have the metal.
OH yes, the metal. Around the age of 17, I started to learn piano. Then the perminant presence in my music collection of such megalithic bands as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath started to demand attention. I didn't at that time listen to much piano music, realised you couldn't really carry one round (I was a smart kid) and they didn't distort nicely through a Marshall Valve amp, I swapped for the guitar. Then you grow older, pick up more influences, are able to play more stuff. I now use keyboards and piano. Though to call myself a keyboardist would be a grocely exagerated lie. I'm a duffer on the old black 'n whites.

Other parts of the site reflect my interests in audio splicery, field recordings, science, real and fiction. Messing around with PHP and other web technologies has also be an interest of late, so if the site appears broken or goes weird, you know why.
